Troubleshooting & FAQ

Solution:

It means the QR code scanning has failed. Please check the following steps:

  1. Make sure when you scan the QR code that you minimize the glare on the tablet by placing something over the camera head, like a piece of paper.
  2. Adjust the focus by pressing the auto-focus button.
  3. Avoid being out-of-range: make sure your computer/tablet screen is about 330 mm (13") away from the camera head.
  4. Reset: If repeating this sequence still does not work, press zoom-in to cancel the scanning process. Restart the TabCam application and the TabCam camera. Go through the setup instructions again to connect your TabCam to the Wi-Fi network.
Solution:

After scanning the QR code successfully, activation should take about 30 seconds. If it takes longer than 30 seconds, this could mean your Wi-Fi network password was incorrect, or that your network may not be fully compatible with TabCam. Please go through the following steps:

  1. If you have multiple Wi-Fi networks, choose the one with the strongest signal.
  2. Make sure the Wi-Fi router is still up and running and that the security key was entered correctly.
  3. Check Wi-Fi Network Names and Passwords. TabCam can only join Wi-Fi networks with names and passwords containing letters and/or numbers. If the Wi-Fi router is WPA/WPA2 Enterprise, it is very possible that the problem results from entering the wrong password. Please check with local technical support staff to unlock it.
  4. Make sure your TabCam’s firmware version is up-to-date.
Solution:
  1. Make sure your computer/tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network (same SSID) as the TabCam.
  2. Security software (firewall, anti-virus) installed on your computer/tablet may be blocking communication between TabCam and computer/tablet. Your Wi-Fi router also may be blocking some TCP/UDP ports. When these ports are blocked, TabCam can not access the Wi-Fi network. Please have technical support staff confirm the ports listed below are not blocked.
    TCP/UDP port
    UDP 1900
    TCP 9527
    TCP 9528
    TCP 8557
Solution:

Confirm your Wi-Fi network's compatibility with TabCam using the AVer Wi-Fi Test Tool available for free for iOS/Android mobile devices and PC/Mac.

  1. Connect two wireless devices (iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Android mobile, PC or Mac) to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Install the AVer Wi-Fi Test Tool on both devices.
  3. Run the AVer Wi-Fi Test Tool on both devices and enter the Remote Device IP of the other device. (This is the device's IPv4 address.)
  4. Press Start on both devices to begin the test
  5. If the network passes the test, your Wi-Fi network is compatible with the TabCam and should have no problem connecting. If it fails the test, you may have to change some settings in your Wi-Fi router for the TabCam to connect.
  6. Please contact AVer technical support and let us know the error log that is generated from the AVer Wi-Fi Test Tool so we can help you troubleshoot the problem.
Solution:

There may be some signal strength issues with the Wi-Fi connection. Please go through the following steps:

  1. TabCam and your computer/tablet must be within 15 meters of your Wi-Fi router.
  2. There may be other devices using your Wi-Fi network at the same time. Bandwidth usage, packet loss and other connection elements may cause the poor video quality.
  3. Make sure your Internet connection has a minimum upload speed of 2.8 Mbps.
  4. Your Wi-Fi router must be 802.11 g/n compatible.
  5. If the above steps don't work, please restart your TabCam and try the QR code scanning again.
Solution:

This is also a Wi-Fi connection strength issue. You can follow the previous steps to identify/resolve the problem.

Solution:

There may be some setting issues with the Wi-Fi router. Please refer to the following steps:

  1. Check Wi-Fi Network Names and Passwords. If the Wi-Fi network name and/or password is/are changed, please go through the Wi-Fi setup process again to reset the Wi-Fi information to TabCam.
  2. If the Wi-Fi network name and/or password has/have not changed, please restart the Wi-Fi router and your TabCam.
What is the AVer TabCam solution?

The essence of your tablet or laptop is mobility, but using it to present live content reduces your ability to stay mobile. TabCam streams live video wirelessly to your iPad, Android, Windows® 8 tablet, or PC/Mac so you can keep your mobile devices mobile. The camera can be placed anywhere in the room leaving you free to present and manipulate the content from everywhere else. Engage your students by bringing TabCam to them to showcase their work, give feedback and work with others without being tied to the camera or a single position.

Battery and usage

Upon receiving the TabCam, it is recommended to charge the battery for at least 4 hours prior to first use.

Approximately 8 hours. The TabCam camera is equipped with an embedded rechargeable 6-cell Li-ion battery pack, somewhat like what you have in your laptop. Whenever the camera is not being used, please plug in the power adapter to charge the camera to maintain full efficiency and longevity.

TabCam battery
Battery LED Remaining battery power
green between 30% - 100%
orange between 10% - 30%
red between 3% - 10%
flashing red less than 3%

If possible, you should avoid fully discharging the battery, as this stresses the battery. A full discharge occurs when the TabCam completely runs out of battery power and powers off by itself. It's recommended that users perform partial or frequent charges instead of performing a full discharge followed by a full charge. Avoid extreme heat and extreme cold conditions as either one can permanently reduce the battery life.

Wireless

It is important that the TabCam and tablet be connected to the same Wi-Fi network in order to complete the activation process successfully. If the signal is extremely poor, please move to a location with a better network signal and try again. Here is some additional wireless information for your reference:

  • TabCam is not compatible with 802.11a/b and 5GHz networks; use a 2.4GHz 802.11g/n network.
  • set the 2.4GHz Radio Mode on 802.11n routers to 802.11g/n (802.11g for 802.11g routers).
  • AES, TKIP and AES+TKIP are supported wireless encryption methods.
  • for WPA/WPA2 enterprise, TabCam only supports PEAP and not EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS.
  • minimum required bandwidth for optimal TabCam performance is 2.8 Mbps.
  • set your router's Wi-Fi channel selection to "Auto".
  • don't use a "Hidden" Wi-Fi network name.
  • update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware version.
  • check for sources of potential interference (microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, faulty satellite television cables, power lines, cordless telephones, wireless speakers, flat-panel televisions, etc).

The TCP/UDP ports in use are listed below. Please check with your System or Network Administrator to make sure that these ports are not blocked in the Wi-Fi router.

port TCP/UDP usage descriptions
1900 UDP uPnP SSDP package for detecting and removing TabCams
9527 TCP command to send/receive commands between the tablet and TabCam
9528* TCP command to register connections for occupied TabCams
8557 TCP RTSP to connect to the RTSP Stream
random UDP RTP for RTP connection
random UDP RTCP for RTCP connection

Yes. Wireless devices are susceptible to interference from other consumer electronic devices in the 2.4GHz band:

  • microwave ovens often radiate at 2.4 GHz, especially if they are in bad repair
  • Bluetooth devices use the 2.4 GHz spectrum, shared with Wi-Fi
  • fusion lighting, sometimes used in rooms with high ceilings, can affect the Wi-Fi environment
  • some cordless phones using DECT technology operate at 2.4GHz

Try to position the TabCam away from this interference and also away from the floor and any metal devices.

15 meters, but this also depends on the number of 802.11 networks operating in the area.
